Inspiration
The idea for Expate came from observing how difficult integration can be for newcomers in a foreign environment. I wanted to create something that helps people find meaningful connections, opportunities, and local resources in a simple and friendly way.
What it does
Expate is a concept for a mobile app that helps migrants, expats, and refugees adapt to their new environment. It helps users find friends, jobs, local events, and communities that share their interests and background.
How I built it
I designed the app from scratch, starting with UX research and user interviews. I created wireframes, a clickable UI prototype in Figma, and a brand identity that supports the emotional goals of the project.
Challenges I ran into
One challenge was designing for a very diverse audience with different needs and digital literacy levels. I also needed to find a balance between a helpful interface and not overwhelming the user with information.
Accomplishments that I'm proud of
The final prototype was very well received during my thesis defense and earned a 9/10 score from the jury. I also received interest from people in the design and social innovation fields.
What I learned
This project deepened my skills in user-centered design, empathy mapping, and responsive prototyping. I also learned a lot about how to structure design research and present complex social issues through digital design.
What's next for Social Network App UI for Global Migrant Community
I had initial talks with a potential investor about turning the prototype into a real product. While there are no updates at this point, Iām keeping the project open for further development opportunities.
