Inspiration

A follower count is just a number. It doesn't show you who your audience really is. Seeing it as a crowd does.

What it does

  • You enter your social profiles. We scrape your followers and turn each one into a sim.
  • From the scraped data, we also estimate your net worth!

How we built it

Frontend

  • Next.js
  • Three.js (React Three Fiber)
  • Hosted on Vercel

Backend

  • Firecrawl
  • Browser Use
  • Hosted on Zo

Database

  • Hosted Supabase

Every user who signs up starts a process on Zo. It scrapes their public profiles, turns their followers into sims, and estimates their net worth.

Challenges we ran into

  • Looks and speed: making the UI look good was hard, and rendering thousands of sims takes a lot of compute.
  • Connecting the pieces: this was by far the hardest part. Everything worked on our laptops in dev, but broke once we moved to the hosted database, frontend, and Zo.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

  • Thousands of sims walk around on an island, and the laptop fan is still alive. Mostly.
  • It works on the hosted version too, not only on our laptops. We checked twice, because we didn't believe it.
  • We can now put a net worth on your followers. We will not tell you what yours is. (It is in the app.)

What we learned

  • "It works on my machine" is not a deployment plan.
  • Your followers are a lot more fun as tiny people on an island than as a number.
  • Three people using Claude at the same time is fast. Three people changing the same file at the same time is not.

What's next for Social Mirror

Nothing. We already know what our followers are worth, and we would like to be alone now.
