Project Inspiration:
Our project was inspired by the pressing need to improve STI awareness, particularly among younger generations who are highly influenced by social media. The rising rates of sexually transmitted infections (STIs) underscored the urgency of this issue. We recognized that social media influencers have the power to impact social norms, becoming role models and sources of social support, the three pillars of behavior change. We embarked on this journey after extensive discussions with experts from the CDC and public health leaders, who helped us identify the current challenges in the field.
What We Learned:
Throughout this journey, we've learned that creating an effective solution required a harmonious blend of technology, influencer marketing, and public health strategies. We gained a deeper understanding of how to leverage the power of Generative AI to generate tailored content and how to identify influencers dedicated to important yet underrepresented topics like STIs. Our initial idea went through multiple rounds of revision and research, culminating in the current version.
Building the Project:
We developed a platform with two key interfaces: one for health departments to discover influencers and another for influencers to access AI-generated content. The building process was a journey of multiple revisions, where we fine-tuned the project based on our research and feedback from the team.
Challenges Faced:
Our primary challenge was navigating the complex and ever-evolving landscape of social media platforms. Our discussions and ideations with CDC experts and public health leaders significantly influenced our project's evolution, leading to a final deliverable that was shaped by multiple rounds of revision and research.
The journey has been a transformative learning experience, and we're excited to continue refining and expanding our solution to make a significant impact in the field of STI awareness.
