As a first time hacker the only solution to talk to other hackers was a massive and crowded slack channel. For me, i would rather have the ability to post a team or search for teams in a more comfortable way.
What it does
Social hacks is a social media platform for Hackathons in which allows users to find other hackers, create a team for a Hackathon, apply for teams, and invite hackers to teams.
How I built it
We built it using an off brand MEAN stack, where MongoDB was replaced with MySQL for simplicity. The front end design was done in Angular 8, an API was created with express.js to allow the angular page to connect to the MySQL database.
Challenges I ran into
We initially were going to host a MongoDB Atlas database, but after spending several hours attempting to connect to atlas, we began trying other online hosting solutions. After server more hours, we came to the conclusion that a local hosted database would work for the situation and be simpler to develop.
Accomplishments that I'm proud of
As a group in which neither member has ever created anything past a beginner angular front end from tutorials, we were able to create a full stack web application that looks much better than what was expected with more functionality than we initially thought would be possible in the time allotted.
What I learned
We leaned how to: develop full stack web applications from an idea, how to make a SQL database, how to connect a database to a server, how to connect a server to a web page, how to handle different users with different access, and how to work quickly and effectively as a team.
What's next for Social Hacks
The next step for Social Hacks would be the creation of a mobile app to allow better access for more hackers.
