Inspiration
We were inspired by the challenge that many students, knowledge workers, and creators face: fluctuations in emotional state, social energy, and cognitive focus. People often struggle to understand why certain interactions, routines, or environments affect their mental well-being. EmoBank emerged as a way to give these users a clearer sense of self-awareness and actionable insights for emotional balance and sustainable mental performance.
What it does
EmoBank allows users to perceive patterns in their emotions, social energy, and cognitive clarity—things they would normally only experience as vague feelings. It introduces a new type of awareness called a “personal mental resource sense,” helping users understand the causes of stress, fatigue, and changes in focus. By providing daily insights, it guides users toward sustainable emotional, mental, and social wellness.
How we built it
We built EmoBank using a combination of biometric and behavioral signal tracking—like heart rate, sleep patterns, and interaction metrics—and designed an intuitive interface to present insights clearly. Our workflow relied heavily on high-quality tools, which enabled us to create a complete, functional prototype in a shorter time while maintaining design quality.
Challenges we ran into
One of the main challenges was translating complex biometric and behavioral data into intuitive visualizations without overwhelming the user. We also worked to ensure privacy and consent were fully respected while delivering meaningful insights.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We’re proud of creating a system that not only tracks emotional, social, and cognitive states but also presents them in a clear, actionable way through the Mood Ledger, Social Energy Map, and Clarity Timeline. The fact that we could build this functional prototype efficiently, thanks to effective tools, was also a big accomplishment.
What we learned
We learned that designing for self-awareness requires careful balance: presenting enough information to be useful without creating cognitive overload. We also realized that good tools significantly enhance productivity, enabling teams to iterate quickly and build more complete solutions.
What's next for EmoBank
Next, we plan to expand the tool’s capabilities by exploring additional behavioral signals, refining our visualizations, and testing with real users to validate its impact on emotional and cognitive wellness. Our goal is to continuously improve the system as a trusted companion for self-awareness and mental balance.
