Our story:

We're currently living in a time where students have never felt more isolated, stressed & alone.

Social Diary is designed to connect students, counselors & other university resources so every student can get the help they need when needed! This incredibly easy, engaging Q&A platform, featuring customizable emojis, helps students to overcome mental health barriers & various learning difficulties using the power of community.

Anonymous posting also encourages every student to participate along.

How we built it

  • HTML, CSS & Javascript
  • People can add posts about how they're feeling/ anything they are currently struggling with.
  • Other students, faculty, and counselors can see these posts & are able to respond to students’ posts to give support and advice

What's next for Social Diary

We sincerely hope Social Diary extends the current outreach of university resources and be beneficial to students in need of all kinds of support, especially mental support.

Data from 2019 Statistics Canada suggest that children already reporting mental health challenges may be particularly vulnerable. Among children and youth aged 5 to 17, 17% reported poor or fair mental health, and 5% reported a diagnosed anxiety disorder. We hope that the success of this project at UBC will allow it to extend beyond to high schools and other institutions.
