Inspiration
This book draws inspiration from lots of children's books we read when we were younger. The Ladybug Girl series by David Soman and Jacky Davis and the Gaspard and Lisa books by Gutman and Hallensleben deserve special mention.
What it does
Our book tells the story of dealing with COVID-19 from a kid's perspective and tries to teach other kids how they can help fight the virus.
How I built it
We wrote the story first and Lila created storyboards for each page. Katya drew the illustrations using the Procreate app on her iPad. Lila researched the information for the Q&A section by looking at the CDC COVID-19 guidelines and the WHO website. Then we put it all together in the .pdf.
Our dog, Abby Wambark, who makes a cameo on page five, provided moral support through the whole process.
Challenges I ran into
It's not always easy working with your sister!
Accomplishments that I'm proud of
We're both really proud that we were able to create this book in such a short period of time.
What I learned
Katya learned the procreate software, and we both learned a lot about COVID-19.
What's next for SoapGirl and WaterBoy Fight the Coronavirus
We'll see!
