Inspiration
We were thinking about what the average person can do to combat climate change and how much water can be wasted in the shower. We found out a good length for a shower is 8 minutes, which consumes roughly 2.5 gallons per minute, totaling 20 gallons of water used in total per shower.
What it does
the app that helps you save water in the shower. With SoapOpera, you choose your Spotify playlist and then we curate songs for you that total the average length of one shower. So when the music stops, you know to turn the water off. SoapOpera is a great way to save water, save money, and do your part for the environment
How we built it
We used React js, tailwind css, and the Spotify API.
Challenges we ran into
A lot of the Spotify resources that we looked at were deprecated at first we were trying to build a react native app however Spotify discontinued that API so we switched routes to using the web api.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are proud of being able to learn on the fly
What we learned
Using Authentication and how to incorporate an API into a web app .
What's next for Soap Opera
In terms of features we think it would be cool to add web play back support and fix the layout a little bit more. Also we want to tweak the algorithm to make the songs fit closer into the 8 minute time slot. We are going to add our application to Untitled ProjX.. hopefully we will gain some traction from other college students and maybe get some more team members so we can actually deploy to the app store!
