Ship or buy it? Have you ever wondered if it would be cheaper to ship your item somewhere or to buy a new one? Enter Amazon URL and your starting and ending zip codes to find out.
From the Amazon URL, our server takes the ASIN (Amazon Standard Identification Number), and using Amazon’s API, we can query Amazon’s server to obtain data about the product. We parse the data that is pertinent to us (price, weight, dimensions), package it into a json and send it back to our front end to process. Then, from the product weight and dimensions, using ShipHawk’s API, we calculate the cost of shipping from the first zip code to the second. Finally, we compare the two prices and display them.
Inspired by Shiphawk's API, we sought to create a an application that would be useful to anyone, especially college students like ourselves who might be moving to new places.
