Inspiration

My partner and I are big fan of snowboarding across the United States, but we find it frustrating when planning a ski trip. Planning ski trips involves meticulous research into individual ski resort weather reports, making it a cumbersome process. Additionally, due to the substantial investment required for these trips, booking decisions are typically made well in advance. However, the unpredictable nature of weather leaves us uncertain about the conditions during our planned vacations. We come up with the idea that we can gather the weather of all the ski resorts from past 10 years to right now, best predicting the weather and analyzing which ski resort is the best to go.

What it does

Users can select the region that they want to travel to and input the date of their trip, the app will compile the historical snowfall data from last 10 years and give an expected snowfall for the time of the trip and rank the resort in their snowfall depth, user can select the desired resort and view past snowfall information

How we built it

  1. Gather a list of ski resorts in the United States in USA
  2. From the list of ski resorts, get the lattitude, longitude, elevation ## Challenges we ran into
  3. Crawling snowfall data is difficult because there are not a lot of data provider providing data for snowfall and historical data are limited.
  4. On the frontend a lot of effort had went into setting up the graph for an interactive user experience. ## Accomplishments that we're proud of We are proud that our app is looking super neat, we were able to gather data from all ski resorts all across US and we think it really provide valuable information that's very help planning a ski trip. The time limit makes us anxious, but we made it! ## What's next for Snowmap
  5. Find a stable way to update the data.
  6. The way we handle the snow data can be improved.
