Inspiration

I love seeing movement in VR and like programming that way.  The closer it feels to reality, the better the experience IMO.  My Drag Racing world and realistic speeds was an inspiration.  I loved real life skiing and snowboarding in my youth, and hope to share the experience for those who haven't had the chance.

What it does

Snowboarding uses a mechanic that increases or decreases a players speed depending on the slope they are facing once they have selected a board to use. Controls are available to swap boards, and to shortcut to the top of the mountain for another run.

How we built it

The landscape, snowboards, trees, and all else were built in Blender.  Images and textures were processed in Gimp and other low cost software. Coding was created in typescript using VSCode and the Horizon Desktop Editor.  Nearly all designs were done by hand and envisioned from real world experiences.

Challenges we ran into

Creating as seamless and realistic mechanic for proper acceleration and deceleration in a winter snow environment was the greatest challenge.  Having the mechanic work equally as well in screens as in VR was also a challenge.  I do love a good puzzle to solve, and creating these type mechanics are particularly rewarding to me.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

The world truly feels to me as a very realistic snowboarding experience.  Particularly so in VR.  I hope that the visitors to this world have as much fun in it as I do.

What's next for Snowboarding

I will be adding some portable music players like a Walkman that can be carried for personal music while moving around the world.  A few tracks and a few genres will be available as a grab and go.  Also thinking about adding a hidden item quest to find things around the different areas to break out of the designed runs area.

Mobile Focused

  Optimized to use on Mobile and Desktop using Action Buttons, Scripted Camera Modes, Focused Interactions, HUD screen attachment and more.  Have some fun and complete runs down the hill in only moments.  Choose from a selection of Snowboards.  Ride the high speed lift or use custom buttons for easy access to the top.  Challenge yourself or meet up with friends for racing down the mountain.
