Inspiration

The inspiration for our design came from snow shovels and police raid shields; what's better to protect you from the invasive snow on your walk than those two things?

What it does

Our Snow Separator-inator 5000 (SS-5000) helps you push through 5 feet of snow so that you can make it to your exams safe, warm, and on time. The built-in shovel separates the snow with its triangular structure and the connected shield continues that shape all the way to the top to protect you from the snow. The fleece hand warmers are elastic, spacious and accessible for you to push forward with great comfort. After you exam, you can slide back home on your SS-5000 because it double as a sled! Simply flip it over and hop in for a fun ride, or, use it to drag your heavy bag back home once the streets are finally cleared.

How we built it

Imagine this, you wake up on the day of your exam and see 5 ft of snow. You think omg this is amazing my exam will be delayed to another day since the road are blocked and no one can get to school. But then, all of a sudden you get an email from you teacher saying since he can make it to the exam room everyone else should be able to. Little did you know he lives less than a minute away from the exam center. Now you have to trek out in the 5ft of fluffy snow to get to school in time for your exam. So, you run to the garage and start building. See the end of the shovel you broke the other day shovelling and your fathers old riot shields from his days as a police officer. You quickly screw hinges on the shields and the shovel and grab your reusable hand warmers with your large food delivery gloves that go over your regular gloves. Now you are protected and ready to travel to your exam. Ta-da! You now have a Snow Separatorinator 5000!

Challenges we ran into

We were challenged but the restrictions of the multitool fitting in a bag so we created hinges and ways to collapse the SS-5000 and there were also creative limits to how tall the snow is.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

The fact the we finished the SS-5000 in a day and a half as first years is something we are proud we accomplished.

What we learned

When building a solution to your problem, it is 90% about defining the problem and 10% about coming up with a solution. Our team spent half of the day arguing and debating about what the actual problem was and the rest of the day refining our solution.
