Inspiration

The idea for Snovyda emerged from a team brainstorm during a hackathon, where we asked ourselves: "What can we create using our skills to truly benefit people?" We outlined the core frameworks— a mobile platform, AI integration, voice recognition, and text interpretation—to ensure simplicity and intuitiveness. The breakthrough came from our colleague, who shared stories of her grandmother interpreting dreams to help her family understand themselves better. This resonated deeply, revealing dreams as a window into the subconscious. We decided to build Snovyda as a bridge between the conscious and subconscious, empowering users with self-discovery through dream interpretation.

Challenges we ran into

Bringing Snovyda to life as a hackathon project involved balancing technical innovation with emotional sensitivity, all while managing limited resources and time. We navigated these hurdles to deliver a product that's both functional and meaningful. Challenges:

  • Consistency in design — blending custom illustrations with UI
  • Onboarding — encouraging users to record dreams daily
  • Privacy — handling sensitive personal data responsibly

  • Coordinating a distributed team with full-time commitments, relying on clear documentation and focused syncs to maintain momentum.

What we learned

The hackathon pushed us to refine our process from ideation to launch, teaching us valuable lessons in AI application and efficient development. Focus on Core Value: We started with ambitious features but learned to prioritize the AI analysis and visualization pipeline to deliver real self-discovery benefits quickly. User-Centric AI Design: Interpreting dreams requires sensitivity— we discovered that AI must balance accuracy with gentle, non-prescriptive language to avoid overwhelming users. Resourceful Bootstrapping: Self-funding taught us to maximize low-cost tools like AI generators, proving high-quality apps can be built without heavy initial investments. Feedback-Driven Iteration: Early user input from the USA and Canada highlighted the importance of cultural adaptability in dream symbols. Team Efficiency: Short, targeted meetings and clear roles enabled us to juggle full-time jobs while advancing the project. Scalable Workflows: Our AI-to-visualization process showed how integrating tools can accelerate creation without compromising quality.
