We were inspired by HackTJ and our desire to create a platform that combines a mediaplayer and social networking services so that our feeds are more accessible.
What it does
Snorlax is a social media hub that incorporates Facebook, Google Search (via a Facebook Login redirect URI), and Media Player with the top ten songs from BillBoard. These songs are directly pulled from the website and updated automatically (Billboard.com/charts/hot-100).
How we built it
We built it using the Codename One API and Plugin on Intellij IDEA. Throught various methods, we were able to get this project to work.
Challenges we ran into
In order to accomplish certain tasks such as posting on one's feed or reading the news feed, Facebook must approve the app itself. Hence, we are currently waiting on the "okay" from Facebook. At this point, Snorlax will be able to post, read, comment, like, and upload.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We're able to login to facebook and have a working media player. The media player can display the current song, pause, play, skip, fast forward, and much more.
What we learned
We learned different data structures in Java as well as how to simulate different OS environments. Of course, we also learned the CodeName One API methods and linking to a webservice.
What's next for Snorlax
We plan to fully make this into a social networking hub by adding twitter and gmail and perhaps a private chat for users.
