Problem
We call it the Zombie Paradox: It’s late, and you and your partner are about to go to bed, but something’s on your mind. Maybe you’re thinking you don’t really want to move cities after all. Maybe the budget’s stressing you out. You’re stuck between two choices: Bring it up. Stay up all night dealing with it and be zombies tomorrow at work. Don’t say anything. Toss and turn and feel crappy about it.
Inspiration
After 200+ user interviews, we came across a niche community of process nerds who run Agile on their relationships—complete with monthly retrospectives and action points for the next sprint.
While that solution might be a little over-the-top for the average couple, the problem it solves is universal. Snooze It aims to democratize thisAgile approach to relationships.
What it does
When a thought comes up at an inopportune moment, Snooze It helps you get it out of your head. You can jot down a note, snooze it, and get back to bed. The next day, you can revisit the thought and decide whether to delete or debug together.
How we built it
We created the original design for SnoozeIt with Photoshop and InVision. We built the first iteration as a mobile web app with HTML, CSS, and JavaScript.
Challenges we ran into
Because Lisa works mostly with JavaScript and Jennifer works with Java, we had an interesting challenge figuring out how to make our skill-sets work together.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
For both teammates, this was our first hackathon. We’re proud of the minimalist design, the ability to share your thoughts with a partner, and the delightful little animations. :)
What we learned
Lisa has been teaching herself web development for the past six months. This hackathon was a great opportunity for her to try out: persisting data with localStorage 7-1 folder structure Sass designing and building empty state screens making a mobile-first web app
What's next for snooze-it
The next step will be to get user feedback. We’ve already scraped an email list of 800+ followers of project management tools who are in relationships, so these will be the first people we reach out to. (Prior experience tells us that we can expect a 20% response rate from cold email.)
