Inspiration : We went into this project without much background in Python. As university students, we tend to be very sleep deprived and we generally don't get the quality of sleep we need for our age. This results in the disruption of our studies in school as we always feel lethargic. Therefore, this inspired us to create an app allowed us to help us and many others track the problems we face with sleep.

What it does : Snooze is an app that helps improve our sleep by tracking our sleep patterns.

How we built it and the Challenges we ran into: As mentioned above, going into this we had zero experience in python, and we had to make room to learn and code at the same time, and as a group that's only familiar with machine learning and HTML, making a mobile app was a big learning curve. We weren't able to dedicate much time to building the project as much as we wanted, because we spent a lot of time learning using resources like youtube and GitHub, therefore we don't have a complete end project to share via video. So, we created a demo video showcasing our code. We started with a very simple design structure were planned to have a tool for users to track their sleeping time before they sleep, and then the timer would be interrupted if the user uses their phone during the night. We also then had a page in which we had many health and self-care-related tips to enhance the sleep habits of the user.

What we learned : Through this opportunity, we researched the many contributing factors to different sleep patterns and learned several information. We first researched the impact food had on sleep and found that typically high sugar, saturated fat and carbohydrates can cause sleep disruption. Then, in terms of exercise, we found that aerobic exercises can improve sleep quality and reduce daytime sleepiness.

What's next for SNOOZE : We hope to be able to keep working on the many errors of the basic design and to keep on working on the app, and hopefully we would be finished it by the end of August.
