Inspiration

As avid Redditors, we’ve always appreciated the platform's vibrant community and dynamic discussions. Participating in the Devvit Hackathon was a unique chance to delve deeper into Reddit’s tech ecosystem and harness its powerful tools, like Devvit’s Webviews. The hackathon’s emphasis on innovation inspired us to dream big and design a project that not only enhances user experience but also brings a touch of creativity and functionality to Reddit. Our project idea was born from a desire to make Reddit more interactive and engaging for its users.

What it does

Our project, Snooman, is a Reddit-themed hangman game that combines fun and familiarity with the platform. A random post or comment is displayed, and the user has to guess which subreddit it is from. With every incorrect guess, the hangman progresses closer to its fate!

How we built it

We built Snooman using Devvit Webviews to create an interactive interface that integrates seamlessly into the Reddit ecosystem. The game dynamically fetches posts and comments using Reddit’s API and matches them with their respective subreddits.

Challenges we ran into

  • Data accuracy: Mapping posts and comments to their respective subreddits required careful filtering to ensure relevance and prevent spoilers.
  • Webview integration: Getting familiar with Devvit Webviews and optimizing the interface for smooth performance posed an initial learning curve.
  • Time constraints: Balancing feature implementation and debugging within the hackathon timeline was challenging but rewarding.
