About the project
Inspiration
Snoo's Destiny was inspired by Reddit's creative and engaged community. We wanted to create a game that not only suited the Reddit user base, but also tapped into their ingenuity and love of challenge. The idea of daily puzzles, story-driven gameplay and user-generated content felt like a perfect fit for the platform.
What it does
Snoo's Destiny is a reddit app that you can add and install in a subreddit. The app presents the users with a new quest everyday, and the users come together to solve it using hints and storyline. When they solve it, they get points for the day. Moreover, they can put their suggestive topics for the next day's story in the comments section. One lucky topic is selected everyday and that user's account is put in a banner on the post. Users can also view previous chapters and solve them as archives if they want to.
How we built it
- Brainstorming: Our team worked together to define the core mechanics and overall narrative.
- UX/UI Design: Wireframes and prototypes were created with a focus on simplicity and Reddit's unique user interface.
- Development: We created the whole application in pure Devvit blocks and utilised various hooks and methods like useState, useAsync, Redis, HTTP requests and more.
- AI-powered content: Google's Gemini APIs were used to create dynamic storylines and puzzles based on prompt and specific suggestive topics.
Challenges.
- Platform Specific Design: Adapting a game to Reddit's minimalist and user-driven layout.
- Puzzle Creation: Integrating APIs that generate daily puzzles that are challenging yet logical for Reddit's intelligent audience using user generated content.
- Time Constraints: Working efficiently within the limited timeframe of the hackathon.
What we learned
This project taught us the intricacies of designing for a unique ecosystem like Reddit. We explored how to balance intuitive UX with dynamic storytelling, while ensuring engagement through clever puzzles. We also gained insights into adapting game mechanics to web-based environments and using AI to generate interactive content.
Conclusion
Snoo's Destiny is a testament to teamwork, creativity and adaptability. It brings the Reddit community together through a shared story and challenges that inspire ingenuity.
