Inspiration
I've always been fascinated by speedruns and Reddit communities. The idea of combining competitive gaming with community pride really excited me. Plus, who doesn't love seeing their subreddit's name at the top of a leaderboard?
What it does
Snoo Rush is a speedrun platformer where players race through 7 levels, but with a twist: your best time contributes to your subreddit's team score. It's like Mario meets esports, but with Reddit bragging rights.
How we built it
Day 1 (Most of it): Panic-coded the core mechanics in Phaser 3 Last 6 hours (Thanks to the extension!): Added the team leaderboard and mobile controls Final hour: Fixed the game-breaking bugs (mostly) Kiro is the winner for sure !!!
Challenges we ran into
Mobile controls that felt like herding cats That one physics bug that only happened at 3 AM The eternal struggle of "just one more feature" before deadline
also tried to inject more textures but dropped it as time was low and i dont want a choppy game.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
It actually works (mostly) Mobile controls don't make people throw their phones The team leaderboard creates real competition I finished before the extended deadline (barely)
What we learned
Kiro AI is surprisingly good at debugging at 4 AM People will compete over anything with a leaderboard Game development is 10% coding, 90% fixing what you just coded Always account for timezone math (it's harder than it looks)
What's next for Snoo Rush - Speedrun Championship
More levels (if people actually like it) Power-ups and special abilities Maybe fix that weird jump bug Also add more textures and physics. This maybe only 5% of the game i just did this in 2 hrs !!! Lets see what kiro can do if i got more time ...
