Inspiration
Inspired by the early 2000s portable keychain game, Gigapets and r/chook. I wanted to bring a sense of nostalgia, reminding Redditors of simpler times in our lives, when taking care of virtual pets were all we had to care for.
I'm a member of a lot of throwback subreddits and know they will love this!
What it does
The Community Snoo Pets acts and behaves like your normal Gigapet.. for now!
Reddits must work together to take care of it. They'll feed, talk, and play with it to keep it alive.
But no worries, if it dies, there's a handy restart button that may or may not be there in the future.
How I built it
Using the Reddit x Devvit starter code provided for this hacakthon, I was able to generate the interactive post required for this game.
For pixel art, I worked alongside Claude Sonnet 3 to test out what prompts I could incorporate into Bolt to best guide it to se my vision clearly.
I also tested the app repeatedly on Reddit.
Thank you to the Reddit Devvit team for the continued support when challenges popped up, including when adding the Built with Bolt badge.
Challenges I ran into
Oh man, so many challenge with Bolt and getting it to grasp Redis and Devvit API. Getting the correct components where they needed to go was also a challenge, and many error messages did occur.
In addition, pixel art was something I was surprised to see Bolt struggle with. It kept defaulting to wanting to use emojis and that wasn't something I wanted nor asked for.
And of course, there were a few outages that occurred that caused some delays but the Reddit team worked hard to navigate them and kept members of their Discord server updated. Which I greatly appreciate.
Accomplishments that I'm proud of
Getting this submitted is honestly my biggest accomplishment. I really loved working with Devvit, spent most of the hackathon trying to put out as many games as I could simply because I had fun learning and building them.

What's next for Snoo Pet - Your Early 2000s Nostalgia Game
Adding some extreme, gross, and fun pixel art and animations to happen after pressing certain buttons. As well as, adding more Devvit components for properly generating a leaderboard and creating shareable posts and comments.
