Inspiration
Snoo Jump was inspired by my love for simple yet addictive platformers like Doodle Jump and Cone Jump. I wanted to take the fun mechanics of bouncing endlessly higher and give it a fresh twist by bringing in Reddit’s Snoo as the main character. The charm of Doodle Jump lies in its straightforward controls and the challenge of climbing higher while avoiding obstacles, and Cone Jump adds its own playful spin. Combining these ideas, Snoo Jump is meant to capture that same fast-paced, easy-to-learn but hard-to-master style of gameplay. The goal was to create something lighthearted, nostalgic, and fun, while also making it feel new with Snoo at the center of the adventure. It’s about reliving the excitement of those classic jump games but with a personality that feels familiar to the Reddit community.
What it does
Snoo Jump is a fun vertical platformer where I made Reddit’s Snoo bounce from platform to platform, climbing higher and higher. The goal is to survive as long as possible, avoid falling, dodge obstacles, and grab power-ups (beware of the spring powerup) along the way. Inspired by games like Doodle Jump and Cone Jump, it combines simple controls with addictive gameplay that challenges players to beat their own high scores.
How I built it
I built Snoo Jump using Devvit for the backend to handle game logic and community integration, and React for the frontend to create a smooth, responsive, and engaging user experience. The combination allows seamless performance while keeping the game lightweight and fun to play across platforms. Kiro was used in integrating Devvit API, Splash Screen, Gameplay Troubleshooting.
Challenges I ran into
One challenge was fine-tuning the platform spacing and physics to make the game feel natural and fair too easy and it gets boring, too hard and it feels frustrating. I also faced some difficulties with collision detection and ensuring Snoo interacted correctly with moving or disappearing platforms. Integrating Devvit API was Difficult as i wanted to add the user Snoovatar as the playing Character.
Accomplishments that I'm proud of
I’m proud that I created a working, playable game that feels fun and brings Reddit’s Snoo to life in an arcade-style game. Getting the core jumping mechanics to feel smooth and responsive was a big milestone, and I’m happy I captured that. Finally the game has a splash screen not a great one but it works
What I learned
I learned how to better balance gameplay mechanics for engagement, how to use Devvit for game-related features, and how to optimize React for interactive animations. How to use Kiro for troubleshooting. I also gained experience in iterating quickly testing, tweaking, and improving mechanics until they felt right. (one version every 20 mins when i was actively developing the game)
What's next for Snoo Jump
I plan to add more features like power-ups, themed levels, and leaderboards so players can compete with friends and the Reddit Community. Community designs and created levels to keep the game fresh and exciting.
