Doomscrolling, online shopping, games; there are simply too many distractions to stay productive today. How can we keep ourselves on track? Have a reminder that you don't just click ignore? Perhaps even make you.... scared to be unproductive?

What it does

Snitch is a Chrome extension that monitors your productivity and keeps you on track through fear, paranoia, general feelings of unsettledness, and dread!

Normal productivity apps block websites completely, making users inclined to ignore or turn off the app. Snitch focuses on training your attention rather than quitting cold turkey--and who can quit doomscrolling cold turkey?

Don't be afraid to Snitch on your friends! Send friend requests to other Snitch users to ensure they're being productive. But remember, snitches get stitches... you better be on track, less you get Snitched on too!

Blacklist any websites you want! From distracting websites like Instagram and TikTok to traumatic websites like Leetcode and Indeed, you can make sure you stay on track. You can always click out of a Snitch popup if you really, really need to watch that brainrot reel. But don't stay on the website too long....

How we built it

We used the Google extension template by guocaoyi on GitHub. We used CSS for the Snitch interface and the website effects. We used Supabase for the backend to store user profiles and friends.

Challenges we ran into

The login and friend interface was difficult to get working. The scare CSS was also a pain to write, especially. Testing our Snitches made us very scared!!

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We're proud of how scary we made it... and how productive it makes us! The friend interface and ability to send scares to any user also on Snitch were very cool and satisfying to make work.

What we learned

We learned the power of friendship and CSS.

What's next for Snitch

We would like to add user feedback on successful friend Snitches, just to get that extra validation. It's always good to make the Snitches scarier, but we didn't want to scare the audience too much :(
