Inspiration
We were inspired by our own experience coming to college and having to fend for ourselves for the first time. We faced trouble with finding time to cook food and learn new recipes, while keeping the cost down. We were also inspired the major problem of food waste the world faces.
What it does
The website serves as the main introduction to the project and the game. It gives a brief introduction to what the game does, what were were inspired by, and links to simple recipes that a user could try out when first playing the game. Furthermore, it provides external links to the issues this game targets, such as food waste and financial literacy, to help the user gain more information.
How we built it
We mainly used used HTML and CSS for the front end. For the game, we coded that in Python using the Pygame library.
Challenges we ran into
Some challenged we ran into included the time constraint and coding the game aspect. We felt if we had more time, our product would be a bit more polished and we could include more gamification aspects.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are very proud of the website we have created and the styling we used. We are also very happy that we managed to create a game that has some functionality.
What we learned
We learned a lot of game development and the details that goes into creating a game. We enjoyed working on our project and understanding how to create a fun, engaging, yet educational game.
What's next for SNESS - A Cooking Simulator
We want to implement a shopping aspect eventually to help focus on the financial literacy side of the project.
