Inspiration
As a new UX designer I wanted my portfolio to reflect my design sensibility and curiosity. I was inspired by the clean inviting interfaces of Apple’s iPadOS aiming for a digital experience that feels modern and approachable. My goal was to create a space that showcases my projects and demonstrates my ability to design for clarity delight and usability. The playful app-like layout was inspired by the way iPad organizes information making it easy and enjoyable to explore.
What it does
My portfolio introduces me Sneha Maram as a UX designer and student at UTD. It presents my work in an interactive visually engaging format that mimics an iPad interface. Visitors can scroll through my featured projects learn about my background and get a sense of my design philosophy and skills. The interface is responsive intuitive and designed to highlight both my personality and my technical abilities.
How I built it
I built my portfolio using Next.js for a modern fast and scalable web experience. The UI was designed in Figma where I crafted each component to match the iPad inspired aesthetic. I translated these designs into code using React components and custom CSS focusing on gradients rounded corners and subtle shadows to capture the look and feel of a digital device. I also implemented features like a live CST time display and smooth internal scrolling to enhance the interactivity and polish of the site.
Challenges I ran into
One of the main challenges was translating the nuanced details of the Figma design like gradients iconography and the notch effect into responsive accessible code. Ensuring that scrolling was contained within the iPad container and not the whole page required careful CSS structuring. I also spent time refining the visual hierarchy so that my introduction and projects would be immediately clear and engaging on all screen sizes.
Accomplishments that I'm proud of
I am proud of how closely the final product matches my original vision in Figma. The site feels cohesive and professional and the iPad metaphor adds a unique memorable touch. I am also pleased with the technical solutions I implemented such as the live time display and smooth scrolling which add polish and interactivity. Most importantly I feel the portfolio authentically represents me as both a designer and a problem solver.
What I learned
Building this portfolio deepened my understanding of both UI development and UX best practices. I learned how to bridge the gap between design and implementation making tradeoffs where necessary while preserving the core user experience. I also gained experience with Next.js responsive CSS and managing state for interactive UI elements. This project reinforced the importance of iteration feedback and attention to detail.
Whats next for Sneha's Portfolio
Next I plan to expand my portfolio with more detailed case studies and interactive prototypes. I want to add a section about my design process including sketches and user flows to give visitors deeper insight into how I work. I am also interested in experimenting with motion design and subtle microinteractions to make the site even more engaging. As I take on new projects and grow as a UX designer I will continue updating my portfolio to reflect my evolving skills and interests.
