Inspiration

The inspiration for SnapWaste came from a desire to address the growing environmental issue of improper waste disposal. Seeing the negative impact on our planet, we wanted to create a simple yet effective solution that empowers individuals to make better disposal decisions effortlessly.

What it does

SnapWaste allows users to take pictures of their trash, and using advanced image recognition technology, it identifies the item and provides instructions on the correct disposal method. Whether it's recyclable, compostable, or general waste, SnapWaste ensures that users dispose of their waste properly.

How we built it

Idea Conceptualization: Brainstormed the core features and designed a user-friendly interface. Technology Stack: Frontend: Built with React and Chakra UI for a responsive and intuitive user experience. Image Recognition: Integrated a API that has advanced image recognition using a trained model to identify trash items. Development: Implemented image upload feature. Connected to external APIs for image processing and fetching disposal instructions. Focused on UI/UX design for an appealing and easy-to-navigate app.

Challenges we ran into

User Experience: Designing an intuitive interface that caters to users of all ages involved multiple usability tests to refine the design.

Accuracy of Image Recognition: Ensuring high accuracy in identifying various trash items required iterating on our model and training it with a diverse dataset.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Successfully developed a functional prototype that accurately identifies trash items and provides disposal instructions.

Created a user-friendly interface that makes waste disposal easy and accessible for everyone.

What we learned

Learned to overcome technical challenges through teamwork and perseverance.

What's next for SnapWaste

Expanding the Database: Continuously improve the accuracy of our image recognition model by expanding the database with more diverse trash items. User Feedback: Incorporate user feedback to enhance features and user experience.
