Inspiration
Remember those days out on the school yard playing tag with your friends? Now fast forward and imagine playing tag once again, but now with your smartphone.
What it does
SnapTag! is a game of photo tag. So imagine you are currently in a game and you are it. You go about your day normally and then you see your friend across the street. You pull out your phone snap a picture and then its sent out to the group playing and they confirm that its the person you think it is. Now that person is it and has to go out and find someone in the group to tag. This game can go for a while until someone is tagged a set number of times and they are the loser.
How I built it
We built SnapTag! using Android Studio for the app design and interface, Parse to handle the back-end, the facebook SDK for a login, and java for the various classes.
Challenges I ran into
We ran into many challenges with facebook login, parse, and utilizing the camera, but we persevered and were able to overcome them.
Accomplishments that I'm proud of
This was a big project and all of us had never taken on something this difficult, but in the end we brought our resources together and were able to come up with a product we were proud of.
What I learned
We each focused on a different part of the app and each learned something new. Ryan handled creating our own simple camera. Kevin took care of the back-end with Parse. Colin incorporarted a facebook login. Savanna handled the user interface and a login system.
What's next for SnapTag!
SnapTag! has potential for growth and we will pursue this idea further after the hackathon there are still many features we were unable to incorporate in the time frame, such as different game modes, a better interface, and iOS.
