Inspiration

SnapSkill was inspired by a simple but overlooked need which is tracking our learning journeys. While platforms like TikTok or LinkedIn showcase what people already know, there was no playful, lightweight tool to help users document how they got there. I wanted to create something that made knowledge capture fun, not a chore, something visual, personal, and pressure-free.

What it does

SnapSkill lets users visually log what they learn every day using photos, short notes, or voice clips. Whether you picked up a new coding trick, learned a design principle, or discovered a historical fact, SnapSkill helps you capture it instantly. It creates a timeline of your intellectual growth like a personal learning journal you can revisit or share.

How we built it

I used bolt.new to design and build the app rapidly. The frontend was developed using TailwindCSS with a clean, modern look inspired by Duolingo, TikTok, and Notion. The app uses local storage for now, but is designed to scale with Supabase integration. The backend functionality is modular, with the last step being authentication and onboarding. We hosted the live app on Netlify and used Formspree for collecting user reviews.

Challenges we ran into

  • Finding the balance between simplicity and functionality
  • Designing a UI that’s both fun and minimal
  • Handling media inputs without a full backend
  • Making the product feel valuable with just one core feature

Accomplishments that we're proud of

  • Building a fully functional MVP in less than a day

  • Crafting a product that anyone — from students to professionals — can use daily

What's next for SnapSkill

  • Add Supabase and user authentication
  • Create a public profile mode for those who want to share
  • Integrate reminders and streaks to boost daily engagement
  • Launch a SnapSkill Chrome Extension for instant desktop logging
  • Build a community around learning out loud, one Snap at a time
