Inspiration

All the members from our team have passions in creative aspects and especially food creation, which is why we decided to create an app that can help low income students facing food insecurity, while also including a game aspect into our app.

What it does

SNAPQuest utilizes the USDA’s SNAP retail locator to redirect users to EBT friendly stores within their area. Our app also provides fun recipe ideas, a place for users to log their healthy products and finally a game that would motivate users to create healthy meals.

How we built it

If we were to build SNAPQuest, we would mainly utilize swift and XCode. As for the features we would utilize the USDA snap retail locator, and Google’s Geolocation API for our locator feature, and we would use MealMate AI for users to log their meals.

Challenges we ran into

As we are beginners when it comes to coding and creating an app, we decided to join the pitch competition so when we were thinking of how to actually create our app, we were confused, but with a lot of research we were able to find software that would go well with our apps design and ideas if we were able to build it. Also, there were many components to this project, which resulted in some confusion about the formatting. With much organization, we were able to resolve this issue.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

When it comes to accomplishments, we are really proud of our idea as we think it is a really original and fun idea that involves a lot of creativity, especially when it comes to the game aspect of our app as that is what could really motivate users to come and join our app.

What we learned

We learned a lot in the creation of this project. As people who are new to coding we learned about applications and software that you could use to actually create apps as well as how we could use our creativity to create something that will truly make an impact.

What's next for SNAPQuest - Embark on a nutritious journey.

We would really love to see our idea come to life, as we think it could truly help thousands of people and maybe even more. If our app comes to life we would love to be able to implement our features and have feedback from users, and we would also want to include even more to help students with food insecurity.
