Inspiration: As college students it is often hard to find inspiration to use the last few seemingly random items in our fridge. We find a lot of food goes to waste as students opt for an easier option of eating out and picking up unhealthy food. SnapshotChef promotes a healthier and less wasteful lifestyle.

What it does: SnapshotChef helps give college students and other users ideas for how to use the food they already have. Users upload photo of their fridge and our app uses a large database of recipes to suggest ideas utilizing the food the user already have. These ideas can be filtered around dietary restrictions and other specifications to help users find not only recipes they can already make, but options that interest them!

How we built it: Our team used a combination of Javascript, HTML, CSS, and Python to build the code. We had some experience in all of those languages individually before, but we learned a lot about connecting them to work together.

Challenges we ran into: This was our first time trying to build a website and we struggled when determining specifically how to start and initially format a webpage that appeared online with a port. It took a lot of general research on how to display a webpage on a local host, but we were able to configure it to work. We also struggled to implement our API keys and took a lot of time learning how they worked and how to use them.

Accomplishments that we're proud of: This was our first hackathon and we were worried that we would not be able to even submit a product, let alone a functional product, and we are proud of code and end result. We incorporated new technology that most of us had never even heard of prior to the start of the weekend and can definitely say we developed new skills.

What we learned: We learned a lot about how to use API keys in our software development and gained a lot of valuable information on connecting front end development to back end development, since none of us really had experience with this before.

What's next for SnaphshotChef: We are excited to continue to innovate and add more features to SnaphsotChef. We made so much progress in 24 hours and with more time hope to make this a fully functioning webpage. We plan to add a feature with a favorites option and general recipe search so that users can save recipes they are interested in and those recipes and those favorites appear at the top of the page.
