Inspiration
This project is created with an inspiration to build some fun board game along with learning new open source technologies.
What it does
It is a multiplayer 2D board game called snakes and ladders where 2 users can alternatively make their moves by clicking on the dice and the first one to reach the final 100th position after coming through various obstacles of snakes and help of ladders, will be declared as the winner. The players can reset and quit the game anytime.
How we built it
The game is completely built using the game engine Godot and the assets are created using paint3D and Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop.
Challenges we ran into
Both of the teammates were completely new to the Godot game development. The whole first day of our hackathon was spent on learning the fundamentals of the game engine and the whole game is created in a single day. It was a big challenge learning and implementing such features in a single day.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We're very much proud of the developments and the things we were able to learn during the whole process. We learned it all from scratch which is a big accomplishment we are very proud of.
What we learned
We learned the game development basics creating this fun game project and the GDScript language used to build the game.
What's next for Snakes and Ladders!!
This game is a very small version of what more we can do. We are planning to add more players, a play against computer mode and much more. Furthermore, we are planning to export the game into android and creating an application, we can even create a website where we can play the game.
