Inspiration

The inspiration for SnackSensei came from the growing need for personalized nutrition guidance in a world where health and dietary needs are increasingly complex. We wanted to create a solution that combines the power of AI with the science of nutrition to help individuals make informed food choices that support their overall health and wellness. Our goal is to make healthy eating accessible, convenient, and tailored to each person's unique needs.

What it does

SnackSensei provides personalized diet plans based on users' backgrounds and medical histories. Users can choose from various diet options, and the app generates a comprehensive weekly nutrition plan. This includes detailed recipes, a list of required ingredients, and information on the closest grocery stores to purchase these ingredients. The app ensures that users have all the tools they need to follow a healthy and balanced diet.

How we built it

We built SnackSensei using the cutting-edge Groq hardware, LangChain framework, and the powerful Mistral model to suggest tailored weekly plans and diets. We extract text from the user's medical report to customize the recommendations to their specific needs. The Google Maps API helps users find the closest grocery stores for their ingredients. All of this is embedded in a sleek and user-friendly Streamlit app, ensuring a seamless experience.

Challenges we ran into

One of the biggest challenges we faced was ensuring the accuracy and relevance of the diet plans generated by the AI. Additionally, integrating real-time data on grocery store locations and ingredient availability presented technical difficulties that required innovative solutions. Another major challenge was building the front-end of the app, as we initially relied on a teammate who eventually left the project. This setback required us to quickly adapt and take on additional responsibilities to complete the front-end development.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We are proud of creating an app that can significantly impact people's lives by helping them make healthier dietary choices. Our ability to integrate personalized nutrition guidance with practical tools like recipes and grocery store locators is a significant achievement. We also take pride in the user-friendly design of the app, making it accessible to a broad audience. Additionally, we are proud to have developed a Minimum Viable Product (MVP) so quickly and to have built such project despite not knowing each other at the beginning.

What we learned

Throughout the development of SnackSensei, we learned the importance of interdisciplinary collaboration, combining expertise in AI, nutrition, and user experience design. We also gained insights into the complexities of dietary planning and the importance of personalized health recommendations. This project reinforced our belief in the potential of technology to solve real-world problems and improve people's lives.

What's next for SnackSensei

Looking ahead, we plan to expand SnackSensei's capabilities by incorporating more advanced features, such as real-time nutritional tracking, integration with wearable health devices, and support for more diverse dietary preferences and medical conditions. We also aim to enhance the app's AI to provide even more accurate and personalized recommendations. Additionally, we are considering a service where we can ship groceries directly to the user's house or even deliver pre-cooked meals, making it even easier for users to follow their personalized nutrition plans.
