Inspiration
Cute foods online and the lack of a successful robotic sandwich maker thus far on the internet.
What it does
Although it is not finished yet, the Snackbot is an in-house robot intended to make a mini sandwich by placing a slice of cheese and a slice of ham on top of a Ritz cracker in a similar fashion to a Lunchables sandwich.
How we built it
Amy CADed the parts and tested them with lasercut medium density fiberboard before using actual acrylic to make the bot. To secure the pieces, we relied on rectangular teeth and Jesus screws. We used three servos for the large turntable mechanisms and a small servo for the gripper arm, which were wired to an Arduino with an ESP8266 Wifi chip.
Challenges we ran into
- stickiness of cheese
- complexity and amount of separate pieces required for turntable mechanism
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Staying up to work on this.
What we learned
- Lots about CAD - dimensions to account for, balance issues, spacing issues, shortcuts and measurements in using Solidworks
- Lots about Arduinos and the ESP8266 chip - connecting to eduroam as a WPA2 enterprise network, setting up the Arduino
What's next for Snackbot
We will hopefully complete it tomorrow.
