Inspiration
Content creators often start with a simple idea but must handle many different roles to bring it to the screen: writer, researcher, director, costume planner, production coordinator, marketer, and editor. Independent creators and small teams rarely have the resources to hire specialists for every part of this process.
Snackable Content Lab (SCL) was inspired by a simple question: What if an individual creator could have an AI-powered creative team available in one application?
An earlier version of SCL was released on Google Play as an AI-assisted storytelling application. That experience helped validate the broader opportunity: instead of using AI only to generate text, we could build an AI-native creative studio that supports creators throughout the content-production lifecycle.
Our goal with the new SCL is to make professional creative planning and production capabilities accessible to independent creators, students, filmmakers, and small creative teams.
What it does
Snackable Content Lab (SCL) is an AI-powered creative studio designed to take creators from idea to screen.
SCL helps creators develop ideas into structured stories, characters, plots, scenes, and episodes while providing AI assistance throughout the creative process. But storytelling is only the beginning.
We are expanding SCL into an integrated creator workflow with capabilities such as AI Story Coach, AI Director Live, AI Costume Studio, production planning, filming-location assistance, content analysis, and social-media campaign support.
AI Director Live is designed to assist creators during filming by analyzing production context and providing guidance related to framing, lighting, camera positioning, and other shooting decisions.
AI Costume Studio helps creators plan character appearance and costumes based on factors such as the story, character, scene, location, environment, and creative direction.
Together, these capabilities move SCL toward becoming a virtual AI production team for creators, connecting pre-production, production, and content-promotion workflows in one system.
How we built it
SCL began as a mobile application built with Flutter and Dart, allowing us to create a unified creator experience while maintaining a scalable application architecture.
The original SCL application established the foundation for AI-assisted story creation. For the new generation of SCL, we are designing the product around AI-native workflows rather than treating AI as a standalone chatbot.
Google Gemini provides the intelligence layer for understanding creator requests, reasoning about stories and production context, generating creative recommendations, and coordinating AI-assisted workflows.
The application is being structured as modular creative systems—including storytelling, directing, costume planning, production assistance, and marketing—so that each module can specialize in a particular stage of content creation while sharing context about the creator's project.
This allows information created during story development—for example characters, locations, scenes, and visual requirements—to become useful later during costume planning and production instead of forcing creators to repeatedly explain their project to separate tools.
Challenges we ran into
One of our biggest challenges has been moving from AI-generated content to AI-assisted creative decision-making.
Generating a story is relatively straightforward. Helping a creator make useful production decisions requires considerably more context. The system must understand the story, characters, environment, creator's intent, and production constraints while still leaving creative control with the creator.
Another challenge is integrating many stages of filmmaking into a coherent experience. Story generation, costume planning, directing, filming, and promotion are traditionally separate workflows. SCL needs to connect them without making the application complicated for independent creators.
We also have to balance AI automation with safety, consistency, latency, cost, and reliability. Features involving visual analysis and live production assistance create very different engineering requirements from conventional text generation.
Finally, because SCL existed before this competition, an important product challenge has been transforming that existing foundation into a substantially more capable AI-native SCL, rather than simply adding more isolated features to the original application.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
One of our proudest accomplishments is taking SCL beyond an idea and releasing the original application publicly on the Google Play Store.
Building and publishing that first version taught us how to turn an AI concept into a product that real users can install and use.
We are also proud of how the vision has evolved. What started primarily as an AI storytelling application is becoming a much broader creative-production platform.
Instead of building separate AI utilities, we are designing SCL around a connected workflow:
Idea → Story → Characters → Scenes → Costumes → Production Planning → Filming → Promotion.
This represents our larger ambition: enabling a creator with limited resources to access capabilities that previously required multiple specialized tools or people.
What we learned
The most important lesson from building SCL is that the value of generative AI is not simply its ability to generate more content.
Its greater potential is in reducing the complexity between an idea and its execution.
We learned that creators do not necessarily need another chatbot. They need AI that understands what they are trying to create, remembers the relevant creative context, and provides the right assistance at the right stage of production.
We also learned that AI should augment rather than replace creative judgment. SCL therefore aims to give creators recommendations, alternatives, analysis, and production assistance while keeping the creator responsible for the final creative decisions.
Building SCL has also required us to think beyond individual AI prompts and toward complete AI workflows, multimodal understanding, application architecture, user experience, safety, and the economics of running AI features at scale.
What's next for Snackable Content Lab(SCL)
We plan to deepen Gemini-powered intelligence across the platform and connect previously separate creative workflows through shared project context.
AI Director Live will evolve toward real-time production assistance, helping creators make better decisions while filming. AI Costume Studio will expand into character-aware visual development and costume planning. Story intelligence will become increasingly connected with production planning, so that SCL can understand not only what a creator wants to tell but also what may be required to produce it.
Over time, we envision SCL functioning like an AI creative crew in a creator's pocket—supporting writing, creative development, visual planning, directing, production, and promotion from one connected workspace.
