Inspiration
The OIT Track inspired our team to build a web application focusing on health and wellness for SMU students. We wanted to create a platform that not only helps students set and track their wellness goals but also connects them with valuable campus resources.
What it does
Our project integrates an AI chatbot to help students set personal health goals and refer them to SMU's health and wellness resources. Students can then track their goals using the website interface. This ensures that students can have easy access to support and guidance relating to health and wellness.
How we built it
We developed the application using Flask as the backend framework and integrating PropelAuth for secure user authentication. The frontend was crafted using HTML, CSS, and JavaScript. The AI chatbot was built through prompt engineering in Python.
Challenges we ran into
As this was our team's first hackathon, the primary challenge was the 24-hour time constraint. We were not used to this time constraint, and there were so many features we wanted to add with so little time. Additionally, we did not have previous experience with tools such as MongoDB and PropelAuth, and this was some of our team's first full-stack development experience.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are proud to have created a functional AI chatbot and web application and to have learned so much new information in a short timeframe.
What we learned
Throughout this hackathon, we learned about databases, chatbots, authentication, and full-stack development. We also learned how to communicate and work with each other effectively on a complex project under tight deadlines.
What's next for Mustangs Matter
Looking ahead, we would like to have users create and edit goals directly through the chatbot UI and have the chatbot dynamically suggest goals. Additionally, we would like to create a mobile app and a more creative UI for the homepage and overall platform.
