Inspiration
Basic movement mechanics inspired by Mario. Basic power-up mechanics inspired by Kirby
What it does
Short playable game centered around nature conservation.
How we built it
Made using the Godot Game Engine
Challenges we ran into
We had issues getting the provided Unity starter kit to work so we switched to Godot instead. Then we had some issues getting our Godot project files to work with Github leading to some conflicts and file corruptions which we eventually managed to recover after some research. Also, we faced a roadblock during our initial project which was in 3D. This, in turn, caused us to transition to a 2D game despite spending the entire first day working on the 3D game.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We managed to figure out the basics of the Godot engine independently using tutorials and forums that we found online. We also managed to figure out how to work together despite having extremely different levels of coding experience. We were able to partially complete the game in such a short time.
What we learned
-Creating basic player movement in Godot
- Creating a Parallax background in Godot -Creating basic enemies in Godot -Using tilemaps to create levels in Godot -Sprite sheet animation in Godot -GDScript basics in Godot -Collaboration through Github
What's next for SMOKEY RUN
We want to add more levels with more enemies and obstacles. Music would also be nice to include in the game. We'd also like to implement a feature from our initial plan, which was adding dialogue and textboxes with animal characters.
Built With
