Inspiration

I thought about some of the most fun I had in Horizon Worlds, and a lot of the time it’s bonking other players. I wanted to create a fun, engaging game that would cause laughs and rivalries. I feel like this is my first complete PvP game.

What it does

Smashfest: Carnival Chaos throws you into a fast-paced, action-packed arena! Armed with a hammer, you’ll collect coins and battle other players in a chaotic fight for dominance. The objective is simple: end the game with the highest score.

  • Coins increase your score.
  • Eliminating players adds to your score.
  • Falling into lava reduces your score.

After two minutes of mayhem, the player with the highest score emerges as the champion!

How I built it

Smashfest: Carnival Chaos was crafted using a mix of powerful tools and creative resources:

  • The MHCP assets from Horizon Worlds formed the backbone of the environment.
  • Blender was used to design custom elements like the lava.
  • VS Code helped in writing and refining the TypeScript code.
  • The Desktop Editor ensured everything worked seamlessly on mobile devices.

By combining these tools, I brought the chaotic fun of Smashfest to life!

Challenges I ran into

One of the biggest challenges was getting testers. It came down to the wire to submit the world, and I didn’t have enough time to bring in testers to try everything out.

Another hurdle was making sure players got their hammers and that scores updated properly. Debugging these systems was a pain, but the Discord community was a great place to ask questions and get help.

Despite the tight timeline, I managed to pull it all together!

Accomplishments that I'm proud of

Smashfest: Carnival Chaos is my first full PvP game that includes rounds, leaderboards, quests, and a HUD. I’m incredibly proud of myself for achieving this milestone.

I created a game that I can genuinely see myself playing with friends—a game that’s both fun and enjoyable. Regardless of the outcome of the competition, I truly hope the world does well!

What I learned

I gained a much better understanding of player physics and how to effectively use player maps and indexes to manage scores. These skills have boosted my confidence, and I feel like I can create more games faster and with greater ease now.

This project has inspired me to tackle new challenges—my next game will likely be a social deduction game!

What's next for Smashfest: Carnival Chaos

The future of Smashfest: Carnival Chaos is exciting! Here’s what I have planned:

  • Seasonal maps to keep the gameplay fresh and engaging.
  • IWP (In-World Purchase) integration for added customization and fun.
  • More weapons to diversify gameplay and strategies.

After some time, I’d love to let the community clone the world, take it apart, and create their own remixes. Seeing what others can build from my game would be incredible.

If the world does well, I’d also like to host competitions and giveaways to reward the players and build excitement around the game!
