Inspiration

Body positivity is empowering women. To show women that they don't need to diet or change their bodies because they are amazing just the way they are. It's really important as humans to take care of ourselves and in the digital age, seeing images of perfection online can be discouraging and influence you to change how you look, eat, and feel. I myself have felt body insecurities which took time to face but I realized that no amount of dieting or weight loss will make me feel better about myself. It comes down to self-esteem and recognizing that it is alright to have scars, to have flaws, and try your best to be your authentic self.

What it does

Smash diet, Embrace U is a figma website prototype that has three different tabs (Smile, Balance, and Believe) and additionally, the homepage includes "diet buttons" (which will be clickable in the future) that will each lead to a page dedicated to each diet (Keto, Paleo, or vegan) and website visitors can learn more about it. Additionally, there's a "meet the contestants" page at the end of the homepage which portrays each diet and a brief summary about them. The "Balance" tab will help to discuss that "a fad diet is a bad diet" while the "Believe" tab will provide resources and additional tools for website visitors to use and read about that "your true self is U". The plan is to develop "Smash diet, Embrace U" into a fully functioning website in the future.

How we built it

Through Figma, Canva, and using google suite for the slides and brainstorming.

Challenges we ran into

This was my first-time working solo where I'm used to working in a team and the tasks to be completed quadrupled. It was challenging trying to balance finishing everything as my main focus was the UI/UX design which I spent more time on, but I didn't finish the rest of the tabs of the prototype wireframe as this was a 24-hour hackathon. I started 8 hours late and it took some time to brainstorm and figure out how to implement "Smash Diet, Embrace U" as a website prototype with no code and only design.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Figma was really helpful in bringing this idea to life and I'm really proud of the components and wireframe layouts that I worked on because besides the information on the tabs themselves, I wanted the stylistic elements to complement and provide a user interface that looked uniform. Additionally, I'm proud of the homepage, smile tab, and "Meet the contestants".

What we learned

UI/UX design is a process that requires taking risks, pushing yourself to bring the best version of the product/website through the design methology, and it's really important to have fun while designing. By working solo, I now have a better understanding of what I'm capable of achieving when it comes to design, pitching, and how the ideation process works.

What's next for Smash Diet, Embrace U

Planned for the future is launching an Instagram page, a fully functional website, engaging videos, a user login system, and resources such as free online workshops (covering topics such as Body Positivity, Imposter Syndrome, Healthy Nutrition).
