SmartWriter

Inspiration

Whenever I used to chat with my seniors, mentors, professors or when I used to forward any official message even in my unofficial groups of classmates, I used to make sure they are grammatically correct and written in a concise manner for which I have to take my text to websites like Grammarly, LanguageTool. And moving back and forth to these websites breaks the flow of chat, even their extensions are not available on WhatsApp, Instagram etc.

What it does

With the help of SmartWriter, on selecting your text and right clicking you will get the options to improve your text or correct grammar. Check grammar option will highlight the errors and on clicking on them the errors will get corrected. With improve grammar option you will get a more concise version of your text, and you can replace it with your original one.

How we built it

I used prompt API to so that we can send prompt regarding grammar correction and text improvisation. On language part I used JavaScript to code the background and content.

Challenges we ran into

This is my first time building an extension so collecting information on how to build them was the first challenge. And secondly, I also tried to find out whether other people are facing the same problem as mine or not, so collecting feedback was also a challenge

I built my first chrome extension is the best accomplishment

I learned what are the components required for building an extension, what are license and how to add them in your GitHub repository.

What's next for SmartWriter

Next, I also wanted to add the feature of on spot language translation as sometimes I want to convey a message, I know what to write in Hindi, my mother tongue, but I don't know how to write in English.
