Inspiration
Managing utilities like electricity, water, and gas is often confusing and unorganized. People usually don’t track their usage regularly, which leads to unexpected bills and wasted resources. We were inspired to build SmartUtilityManager to make utility tracking simple, transparent, and smarter. Our goal was to help users stay in control of their usage and reduce unnecessary expenses.
What it does
SmartUtilityManager is a platform that helps users monitor and manage their utility usage in one place. It allows users to:
Track electricity, water, and gas usage View past consumption data Get alerts for unusual spikes in usage Estimate upcoming bills Analyze trends to make better decisions
The system turns raw usage data into easy-to-understand insights so users can save money and reduce waste.
How we built it
We built the project using a structured approach:
Frontend: Designed a clean and user-friendly interface for easy navigation Backend: Developed logic to handle data processing and user management Database: Stored user information and utility usage records Analytics: Implemented features to track usage trends and estimate costs
We focused on making the system simple, efficient, and easy to scale.
Challenges we ran into Creating realistic data without real IoT devices Making complex data easy to understand for users Ensuring the system remains efficient with growing data Designing accurate usage alerts and predictions Accomplishments that we're proud of Successfully built a working utility management system Created a clean and intuitive user interface Implemented usage tracking and bill estimation features Developed a solution that promotes cost savings and sustainability What we learned How to design user-friendly data-driven applications The importance of simplifying complex information Basics of data handling and analysis Working effectively as a team to solve problems What's next for SmartUtilityManager Integration with real IoT devices for live tracking Adding AI-based recommendations for saving resources Developing a mobile app version Enhancing alerts and automation features Connecting with smart home systems
