Inspiration

SmartStream Companion was built to bridge the gap between lean secondary displays and rich media environments. We wanted to create a lightweight, responsive companion hub that enhances ambient entertainment with smooth video soundscapes, live visuals, and effortless control.

What it does

SmartStream Companion is a dual-interface media launcher and ambient soundscape hub designed for Android and Android TV platforms:

Ambient Soundscapes: Features smooth video backdrops paired with audio relaxation modes.
Dynamic UI: Features reactive state transitions, live equalizer visualizations, animated color shifts, and fluid scaling effects built entirely in Jetpack Compose.
Multi-Device Support: Optimized for tablet and companion screen experiences with seamless touch navigation.

How we built it

Framework: 100% Kotlin with Jetpack Compose for UI components and declarative state handling.
Architecture: Android Gradle multi-module structure (mobile and tv targets).
Animations: Custom Compose animation spec using animateColorAsState, InfiniteTransition, dynamic scale transformations, and smooth content fading.
Tools: Android Studio, Git version control, and high-definition physical device testing on Samsung Tab A 10.1.

Challenges we ran into

Maintaining liquid-smooth frame rates and responsive layout scaling across tablet aspect ratios while handling concurrent background animations.
Structuring fluid state transitions between video soundscapes and ambient media modes.

What we learned

Mastered advanced Jetpack Compose animation pipelines and dynamic state management.
Deepened modular Android multi-device architecture for companion media experiences.
