Inspiration Use data science for safety

What it does is Sends a notification to the driver's phone about a forthcoming stop sign

How I built it is We used Clarifai API to train the AI to recognise stop signs and used their relative size in the image to estimate the distance. The output from the AI decides the response from Twilio API, which is used as a messenger between AI and person

Challenges - Repeatedly ran into challenges with some of the API codes. 2) Getting to interface between two APIs 3) Training the Clarifai AI with the appropriate images and marking them so as to get a high accuracy utilising with limited images samples.

Accomplishments that I'm proud of - 1. The API can successfully predict with reasonable accuracy the presence of the stop sign in the images 2. Can provide basic feedback as to if the car is 100m away from the STOP sign

What I learned Coding, Decoding, keep working and having fun while somehow continue to avoid sleep

What's next for SmartSTOP- Maybe become the engine that powers an app for mobile devices.
