What it does

SmartSpend helps students track and understand their everyday spending. Users can add expenses, organize them into categories, view their expenses, search and update records, and calculate their total spending.

The goal is to make expense tracking simple enough for students to use regularly and help them become more aware of their spending habits.

How we built it

We are building SmartSpend as a simple and user-friendly expense management application.

The project uses programming concepts such as data structures, functions, input validation, file handling, and data management. We are focusing on keeping the interface simple so that users can quickly record and manage their expenses.

The project is being developed and tested incrementally, with each feature being tested before adding the next one.

Challenges we ran into

One of the main challenges was designing the application so that expense information could be added, searched, updated, and deleted without losing data.

We also had to think about input validation, organizing expense categories, calculating totals correctly, and making sure stored data could be loaded again when the application was restarted.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We are proud of turning a simple idea into a practical student-focused application.

We are especially proud of building the project step by step, testing each feature, handling user input carefully, and adding data persistence so that users do not lose their expense records when the application is closed.

What we learned

Through this project, we are learning how to turn a real-world problem into a working software solution.

We are improving our programming, data management, file handling, debugging, testing, Git, and GitHub skills. We are also learning how to document a project and present its purpose clearly.

What's next for SmartSpend

We plan to improve SmartSpend by adding monthly budgets, spending summaries, visual charts, better category management, and more user-friendly interfaces.

In the future, we would also like to explore a web or mobile version and add intelligent insights that can help students understand their spending patterns.
