Inspiration

Recyclables and electronics and food scraps are often bunched with common trash, but proper sorting of trash could go a long way. That's why we made SmartSort.

What it does

Smart Sort is an app which will tell you how to properly dispose with just a photo snap or quick search.

How we built it

We used pytorch mobilenet to build an AI model, that can calculate the Co2 emissions based on the weight and the kind of trash that is detected.

Challenges we ran into

We struggled towards the end to connect the backend to the frontend.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Being able to make the AI model accurate to 78%.

What we learned

A lot of us were new to handling the backend, so it was a lot of new experience with the backend aspect of development.

What's next for SmartSort

We would like to make the Co2 more accurate to the EPA requirements, so companies can use it for their disposal needs.
