We were inspired by the use of light diffusers and domestic sun tunnels.
Our solution involved absorbing sunlight with dome collectors and transmitting natural light through fiber optic cables to indoor vertical farms
We replicated a closed room setting using cardboard boxes, aluminium foil and toilet rolls to simulate a simplified version of a vertical farm. We also included an Arduino module to act as a light sensor and a supplier of artificial light according to the amount of natural light.
Our greatest challenge was time management as we wanted to perfect our solution and prototype given the short amount of time.
We felt accomplished when we managed to reconcile our ideas of improving the technology in the vertical farm and also implementing the technological aspect with code.
We learnt how to work under pressure and manage our time better and also solving problems with creative and critical thinking skills.
In the future, our project should be improving in terms of technical aspects and also finding possible partners to test and implement out solution.
