IMPORTANT This submission of the SmartShop project was submitted under the account (@anikas2003@gmail.com) under the name Anika Sethi. However, I (Aditi Sethi, TeamRV) created the entire project. I ran into some issues with my own Devpost account earlier (@aditisethi15@gmail.com) and was unable to submit using that account, so I had to use my sister's account (@anikas2003@gmail.com) to submit my project. Inspiration
I wanted to make a website that combats the issue of fast fashion and promotes shopping sustainability, while still providing high quality pieces for affordable prices.
What it does
SmartShop combats the issue of fast fashion by making sustainable shopping easier and more affordable. It provides a site where people are easily able to shop their desired items of various popular brands second-hand, to stop the wastage of clothes, at cheaper prices.
How we built it
I built the site using HTML & CSS, and used information/ research from a number of different websites (resources are all listed in video submission).
Challenges we ran into
I ran into the challenge of styling the website in a clean, modern way while stile prioritizing usability and an easy interface to navigate. It was also difficult to coordinate all the pages of the website to make one comprehensive product.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
I am proud of the multitude of different examples included in the prototype, including various brands and subsequent items, that give the user a feel of how the completed site would be.
What we learned
I learned how to style websites efficiently and coordinate different components to make one final product. I also learned how to make an easy-to-navigate user interface.
What's next for SmartShop
I aim to add functionality to our search bars in the shop now pages, allowing users to search for specific items and specific brands, and make the experience much more customizable. Additionally, I hope to add more detailed information regarding fast fashion and sustainability to our information page, as well as resources/ other companies that are working towards ending the issue of fast fashion.Lastly, I look forward to adding more details about the clothing items being purchased, and positive environmental impact of buying it secondhand, to encourage users to engage in more sustainable shopping. When users are browsing, I would like to embed functionality that allows the user to shop directly from the website.
