Project: Insurance for ERC20 Tokens - Protecting Your Investments
Inspiration: Our inspiration for this project came from the rapid growth of decentralized finance (DeFi) and the need for a reliable insurance solution in the Web3 ecosystem. We observed the increasing popularity of ERC20 tokens and realized the vulnerability of token holders to value fluctuations. We wanted to address this issue by creating a decentralized insurance platform specifically designed for ERC20 tokens. _ Specially when the USDC value drop down to 87 cents in March, 2023 ._
Learning Experience: During the development of our project, we gained a deep understanding of smart contracts, oracles, and the ERC20 standard. We learned how to integrate external data sources to fetch real-time token prices and leverage this information to calculate insurance coverage. Additionally, we explored the intricacies of decentralized governance models and the importance of security audits in the Web3 space.
Building the Project: We built our project using Solidity for the smart contract logic and integrated various oracles to retrieve token price data. Our platform allows users to select different insurance plans offering coverage for 10%, 50%, or 100% of token value loss. The integration of Circle Payments (USDC) facilitates seamless fund deposits into the insurance wallet.
Challenges Faced: Throughout the project, we encountered several challenges. Designing a secure and reliable insurance platform required thorough testing and optimization to ensure the protection of user assets. Implementing a robust governance model was also challenging as we needed to strike a balance between decentralization and efficient decision-making. Additionally, coordinating and integrating multiple external APIs posed technical hurdles that we had to overcome.
Overall, our project aims to provide token holders with peace of mind by offering a trustworthy insurance solution for their ERC20 investments. We are excited about the potential impact our project can have in mitigating risks and promoting the widespread adoption of Web3 technologies in the decentralized finance space. In future, a decentralised funding platform similar to Uniswap can be made where people can stake/ provide for insurance and get interest on that.
