Inspiration
We got inspired by the security part of Maslow's Pyramid. We want everyone to feel more financially secure (especially for students) and to be able to account for future spendings and incomes.
What it does
This tool allows you to enter new spendings and incomes with the amount, the date and the place you went to or bought from. Our algorithm detects the place you went to with the Google Maps and Wikipedia API's and automatically places your transaction in a category (like restaurant, store, subscription, etc). There are graphs available for you to see how you spend your money monthly and you can set a goal to get to (like buying a car or a new computer).
How we built it
We used the Google Maps and Wikipedia API's to detect the category of the shop/place of transaction and rank the transactions by categories, which makes understanding your spendings easier. We used PHP and Symfony for backend and Javascript, Typescript, React, HTML and CSS for frontend.
Challenges we ran into
The time organisation and setting up the projet properly were two big challenges that occured these past 24 hours. The goal page is less polished than what we'd like, but still exists.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We did everything we planned to do for this project. Almost nothing was left out and everyone got to take part of the project equally.
What we learned
We learned a lot about web development, working in a team (fast) and collaborating to get to a common goal.
What's next for SmartSavings
We want to make the goal page better and easier to use.
