Inspiration
During this difficult time, students and teachers are heavily impacted the most all around the world, Covid-19 halted the education process worldwide, During this time I noticed a problem that concerns me a lot, that is, I saw both teachers and students struggling in progressing and learning by self-motivation, that is when I decided to create an automatic, ** self-assessment** tool for teachers and students.
What it does
SmartQuiz helps teachers to generate quizzes automatically from text, wiki articles, pdf, and Images!. currently, supported features of the applications are:
- Sign Up/Login Powerd by Google > Use your Google account for easier safer Authentication.
- Sign Up/Login by Facebook > Use your Facebook account for easier safer Autenication.
- Sign Up/Login Powerd by Email and Password > Or use you Email and Password if you want, to sign up/log in
- Generate quizzes from Wikipedia > Simply paste a Wikipedia article URL and smart quiz will do the rest!
- Generate quizzes from Paragraph of text > Copy paste paragraph from the web/articles/textbook to generate quizzes.
- Generate quizzes from Image > Capture a paragraph using your phone, you will get quizzes from it.
- Dashboard Functionality > All in one place to view different options of generation questions.
- History Page > Access history page to see previously generated questions by you. ## How we built it Power by Artificial Intelligence specifical a subfield called Natural language processing, we can analyze the user input and use negation, positivisation, and sentiment analysis techniques to deliver the questions. I used an image processing technique called Optical character recognition to extract text data from images. Built the application using javascript and Npl-compromise language library, used Firestore database to store user-related data. ## Challenges we ran into

Am proud to helping 20 teachers with my release, I got very useful feedback, especially as I built the application very quickly there is a lot of room for improvement, with possibly some seed funding am pretty sure Smartquiz can be scaled to help millions of teachers and students worldwide.
What we learned
Learned deeply about Natural Language Processing and text analysis, learned about the problem I tried to solve.
What's next for SmartQuiz
Am pretty optimistic about the future of smartquiz based on the feedback that I got from teachers and students, in the coming weeks/month I planned to integrate a dashboard view for teachers to help them perform live real-time quizzes. I also plan to raise funding to pay the server bills and buy a custom domain.
