Inspiration
Being students living far from home, we tried (or saw friends trying) to grow our own plants at home (decoration plants and food plants). But must of the times it was unsuccessful because of lack of knowledge and time.
What it does
This pot aims to help people saving time and avoiding waste of money. It is completely autonomous, it uses sensors controlled by an Arduino to monitor soil humidity, sunlight exposure, temperature, and water level in the built-in tank. Alerts for adding water and nutrients, along with sensor data and growth tips, will be accessible through a digital app.
How we are going to build it
The pot can be easily produced using 3D printing (for the prototype, or molding injection for bulk production); after this is done, we can then assemble everything and make it working thanks to two codes: a Python one and an Arduino one. Everything will be feed by a power supply that has to be properly dimensioned.
Challenges we can ran into
- Connection DataBase
- 3D Print
- App Design
- Gardening Knowledge
- Assembly Process
- Keeping the price as much low as possible
Accomplishments that we'll be proud of
- Establishment on the market
- Revolution in the urban farming field
- Help in the fight against climate change
What we'll learn
- better skills in coding
- better knowledge about gardening
- better knowledge about 3D printing
- economical skills
What's next for SmartPot
- Improvements based on users' feedback
- Research about peri-urban agriculture and farming, to see if a bigger version can be required
