SmartPlate was extremely fun to grow and evolve. We are very proud that we were able to design our app around ourselves and the community that we spend countless hours a day practicing and competing with. It was definitely a learning curve designing our app in React Native using Expo but we watched videos, looked up courses, used prior knowledge of JS and other programming languages to develop our app. Collaboration was key to development and we used GitHub, Slack, in-person meetings, and video calls to organize and collaborate throughout development. We definitely faced challenges with collaboration early on but using these methods we were able to create a system that worked well for our team. The two biggest takeaways from designing SmartPlate is that app development works best when you include your target community from the start, and it is important to ask for help among your team members if you are stuck.
